Henry Black (Representative)

Henry Black ( * February 25 1783 in Somerset, Pennsylvania, † November 28, 1841 ) was an American politician. In 1841 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Henry Black attended the common schools and worked afterwards in agriculture. Between 1816 and 1818 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. In his home, he also worked as a Justice of the Peace. From 1820 to 1840 he was associate judge in Somerset County. In the 1830s he joined the Whig Party was founded at that time.

After the death of Mr Charles Ogle Black was at the election due in the 18th electoral district of Pennsylvania as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he took up his new mandate on 28 June 1841. This he could exactly five months to exercise until his death on 28 November of the same year. Henry Black was the father of Justice and Foreign Minister Jeremiah S. Black ( 1810-1883 ). His grandson Chauncey Forward Black (1839-1904) was Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania.
