Henry Butler

Henry Butler ( born September 21, 1949 in New Orleans, Louisiana) is an American jazz and blues pianist. The blind by glaucoma at birth African American was several times for the Handy Award as "Best Blues Instrumentalist - Piano" nominated. In 2001 he received the Living Blues Award for best keyboard player.

Already at the age of 6 began Butler to play piano. Later, he learned drums, saxophone and trombone. At 14, he played professionally in clubs in Baton Rouge. During his vocal studies, he received a scholarship, which allowed him to study with George Duke and Cannonball Adderley.

Although Butler temporarily lived in Los Angeles and New York City, he always returned to New Orleans. In 1986 he released his first album Fivin 'Around. In 2000 he worked with Corey Harris on the album Vu -Du Menz.
