Henry Cotton (doctor)

Henry Cotton ( born May 18, 1876 in Norfolk, Virginia; † May 8, 1933 ) was an American psychiatrist and head of a famous psychiatric hospital in Trenton, New Jersey. Cotton was an advocate of a controversial theory: he believed that the cause of almost every psychiatric illness is a local infection (teeth, tonsils, gastrointestinal ). Through some very radical surgeries Cotton tried to help his patients.

Although Cottons therapies were not very successful and a large number of casualties demanded, he remained a respected psychiatrist.
