Henry George (cyclist)

Henry George ( born February 18, 1891 in Charleroi, † January 6, 1976 in Uccle ) was a Belgian cyclist and Olympic champion.

1920 Henry George started at the Olympic Games in Antwerp and won the gold medal in the 50 -kilometer race on the track. The race had a dramatic final 31 riders started, 14 of which reached the target. Until shortly before the end led the Briton Thomas Harvey, but crashed 200 meters from the finish due to a collision of his bicycle with that of George, who eventually won. Cyril Alden was also hampered by the collision, but was literally a few inches behind George over the finish line. Piet Ikelaar counted as third parties, complaining that he had been second; his objection was not recognized.

In 1919, George third in the Belgian road Amateur Championship, Belgian vice-champion in 1921.
