Cyril Alden

Cyril Albert Alden ( born January 1, 1884 in St. Giles, † April 12, 1939 in Acton ) was a British racing cyclist.

Cyril Alden participated in two Olympic Games and won three silver medals at the Olympic Summer Games in Antwerp, he raced in three disciplines and got the medals in the team pursuit ( with Thomas Johnson, Jock Stewart and Albert White ) and in the 50 -kilometer race. In tandem race, he finished with Stewart in fourth place. In Paris in 1924 won again Alden silver over 50 kilometers.

The 50 -kilometer race at the Games in Antwerp had a dramatic final 31 riders started, 14 of which reached the target. Until shortly before the end led the Briton Thomas Harvey, but crashed 200 meters from the finish due to a collision of his bicycle with that of Henry George, who eventually won. Also Alden has been hampered by the collision, but was literally a few inches behind George over the finish line. Piet Ikelaar counted as third parties, complaining that he had been second; his objection was not recognized ..
