Henry Grunwald (editor)

Henry Anatole Grunwald ( born December 3, 1922 in Vienna, † 26 February 2005 in New York) was the chief editor of the news magazine "TIME" and the United States Ambassador in Austria.

Life

Grunwald was born under the name Heinz Anatol Grünwald, the son of Operettenlibrettisten Alfred Grünwald in Vienna. 1938 had to emigrate his family on the run from the Nazis. About France and Morocco, they came to the United States. There struck Grunwald, after completing his cum laude from New York University studying philosophy, a journalistic career, which took him from running boy (copy boy) up to the top of the news magazine "TIME". Grunwald is best known for having written to a Watergate editorial in which he already asked Richard Nixon to resign in November 1973, and by 1985 he was the first Western journalist with Mikhail Gorbachev guided interview.

From 1987 to 1990 ( during the tenure of been fine Deten in the U.S. Austrian President Kurt Waldheim ) Grunwald served as U.S. Ambassador to Austria. [Note 1]

Grunwald was in his first marriage with Beverly Suser ( until her death in 1981 ) and his second wife married (as of 1 May 1987) with Louise Melhado. Descendants of the first marriage: Peter, Mandy and Lisa.
