Henry Holden Huss

Henry Holden Huss ( born June 21, 1862 in Newark / New Jersey; † September 17, 1953 in New York City ) was an American composer.

Huss studied at Otis Bardwell Boise and to 1885 in Munich by Joseph Rheinberger. After that, he lived as a concert pianist and music teacher in New York, where until 1932 he taught at the Masters School in 1897.

Became famous for his Ave Maria for soloists, chorus, strings, organ and harp. In addition, Huss wrote a rhapsody for piano and orchestra, a piano concerto, a violin concerto, orchestral pieces, two string quartets, a violin and a cello sonata, piano pieces, choruses and songs.

Discography

Huss is largely unknown in Europe. Lovers of romantic piano concertos became known in 1997 when he a piano concerto was published in the Hyperion Series " The romantic piano concerto " (No. 4,987,378 ). The Gramophone magazine wrote on that occasion:

"The Huss Concerto is written on the gran least scale and makes great virtuoso Demands on the performer ( think of it as an American ' Brahms ' concerto ).
