Henry I van Vianden

Henry I of Vianden (* 13th century, † 1267 ) was Prince-Bishop of Utrecht.

The son of Henry I from the family of the counts of Vianden was archdeacon of the Cologne Archdiocese, as he was raised in 1250 at the instigation of King William of Holland in place of the deposed Gosewyns van Utrecht Aemstel on the chair. Pugnacious and efficient, closely connected with the Dutch, he joined not only the money Rischen and associated with these gentlemen of Aemstel and Woerden contrary, but defeated them and captured them.

To protect against further attempts of Utrecht in turn he built the castle Vreeland. Also in 1257 she saved when she warred with Florens V., Vogt and the regent of Holland, the Bishop, only Henry's intercession. Ongoing fights with his only reluctantly obedient subjects in Drenthe and Gelderland and Jülich filled the Heinrichs government. Like its neighbor and patron, King William, he was generous to the people, renewed and increased the rights of the cities. In them he found the strongest support against the unruly nobility.
