Henry III, Duke of Brunswick-Grubenhagen

Henry III. of Brunswick Grubenhagen (* 1416, † 1464 ), from the Guelph dynasty, was Duke of Brunswick- Grubenhagen.

Life

Henry was the eldest son of Eric I of Brunswick- Grubenhagen and Elisabeth of Brunswick- Göttingen, a daughter of Otto the Quadi, Duke of Brunswick- Göttingen. He followed after the death of his father, in 1427, together with his younger brothers Ernst and Albrecht. Until the age of majority, in 1437, he was under the tutelage of Duke Otto II of Brunswick - Grubenhagen - Osterode. In 1447 broke out between Henry and the Archbishop of Mainz and the allied Göttingen Dukes Landgrave Ludwig I of Hesse from a feud. Ludwig and his allies besieged the castle Grubenhagen, had, however, despite the use of two guns again withdraw. Even an attack on Salzderhelden brought no success. Henry died in 1464 and is buried in the Alexander pin in Einbeck. He was succeeded by his son Henry.

Family

Heinrich married before June 27, 1457 Margaret (* 1415/25; † May 9, 1497 ), a daughter of Duke Johann I Saganer and Scholastica of Saxony- Wittenberg. He was her third husband. They had two sons

  • Heinrich ( * 1460, † 1526) ∞ Elisabeth of Saxe- Lauenburg ( † after April 7, 1542 ), daughter of John IV Duke of Saxe- Lauenburg.
