John V, Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg

John IV of Saxe- Lauenburg - Ratzeburg (* July 18, 1439; † August 15, 1507 ) was from 1463 Duke of Saxe- Lauenburg.

Life

John's parents were Duke Bernhard II of Saxe -Lauenburg ( 1385-1463 to ) and Adelheid of Pomerania ( 1410-1444/45 ), daughter of the Duke Bogusław VIII of Pomerania - Rügenwalde. John succeeded his father in 1463 as Duke of Saxe- Lauenburg.

Johann continued to hold firmly at the electoral title and the Office of Erzmarschalls and initially refused without imperial confirmation of these rights to accept the Lauenburgische fief from his hand. Furthermore, the duke was in constant dispute with the city of Lübeck Mölln, in which he could do nothing.

Marriage and issue

On February 12, 1464 John married in Lüneburg Dorothea ( 1446-1519 ), daughter of the Elector Frederick II of Brandenburg. With her he had the following children:

A born out of wedlock son was Bernhardus Sasse, from 1519 Auxiliary Bishop of Münster.
