Bernard II, Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg

Bernhard II of Saxe -Lauenburg († July 16, 1463 ) was a duke of Saxe- Lauenburg from the family of Ascanians.

Life

Bernhard was a son of the Duke Erich IV of Saxe- Lauenburg (1354-1412) from his marriage to Sophia ( † 1416), daughter of Duke Magnus II of Brunswick -Lüneburg. He followed his brother Erich V. 1436 as Duke of Saxe- Lauenburg.

Bernard took the title of Erzmarschalls the Holy Roman Empire.

On his deathbed, he told his son the streets clean and to keep the peace in cities, as they were superior to him.

Progeny

Bernhard married on February 2, 1429 Adelheid ( † after 1445 ), daughter of the Duke Bogusław VIII of Pomerania, with whom he had the following children:

  • John IV (1439-1507), Duke of Saxe- Lauenburg
  • Sophie ( † 1473 )
