Henry M. Morris

Henry Madison Morris ( born October 6, 1918 in Dallas, Texas, † 25 February 2006 in San Diego, California ) was an American Young Earth creationist -, apologist and hydraulic engineer. He is considered the father of "creation science."

Life

Morris grew up in Texas in the 1920s and 30s of the 20th century. By his own account he was religiously indifferent as a teenager. In 1939, Morris with a degree in civil engineering from Rice University with the degree of Bachelor. By his own account he was shortly afterwards religious Christian and took the view of biblical infallibility.

On January 24, 1940, he married Mary Louise, from the marriage were six children were born. Until 1942 he worked as a hydraulic engineer for the International Boundary and Water Commission in El Paso, Texas. He then returned to Rice University and taught there until 1946 hydraulic engineering. From 1946 to 1951 he worked at the University of Minnesota, where he earned a master's in 1948 and 1950 hydraulic a PhD in hydraulic engineering. ( His minor subjects were geology and mathematics. ) In 1951, he was Professor and Head of Civil Engineering at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. From 1956 to 1957 he was professor of applied science at Southern Illinois University. Subsequently, he was Professor of Hydraulic Engineering and Chairman of the Dean of Civil Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Morris died on the morning of 25 February 2006 to the effects of a stroke.

Work

In 1961, he co-wrote with the theologian John C. Whitcomb the book The Genesis Flood ( the Deluge ), which made known the concepts of " creation science " and flood geology. Flood geology assumes that the earth was as described in the Bible, had really been completely flooded. this book therefore had great influence on the development of creationism in the USA. Morris is considered the father of the creationist "creation science." in this book, he wrote that his views were heavily influenced by George McCready Price., Price was an Adventist teacher, the beginning of the 20th century the concept of creation defended against the theory of evolution.

In 1963, Morris along with nine like-minded people, the Creation Research Society. In 1970 he founded the Institute for Creation Research (ICR ). After Morris retired, his son John D. Morris (born 1946), the Presidency of the ICR.

In addition to most of his work, which deals with the " creation science " and questions of evolution, he also wrote the book Many Infallible Proofs, and The Bible Has The Answer, treat the general Christian apologetic topics.
