Henry V, Duke of Carinthia

Henry V († October 12, 1161 ) from the House of Spannheimer was Duke of Carinthia from 1144 to 1161 and Margrave of Verona from 1144 to 1151.

Life and work

Henry V was the eldest son of Duke Ulrich I. and Judith, daughter of Herman II, Margrave of Baden.

Henry took over in 1144, the still youthful Duke office after the death of his father, but had to constantly take low blows: His great-uncle, Count Bernard of Trixen († 1147 ) bequeathed his rich allods including ministeriales the Styrian Margrave Ottokar III,. 1151 the Margraviate of Verona from the personal union was achieved with the Carinthian dukes and Margrave Hermann III. of Baden, an uncle of Henry awarded. Henry was married to Elizabeth, daughter of Margrave Leopold of Styria, the widow of Count Rudolf II von Stade († 1144 ); They had no children.
