Henry William Clothier

Henry William Clothier ( born April 3, 1872 in London, † March 11, 1938 in Auckland, New Zealand ) was an English power engineer and inventor.

After his education at J. & H. Gywnne Ltd.. in Hammersmith, he went in 1894 to Ferranti Ltd.. , where he was entrusted with the development of switchgear. After Christmas 1903 in a switching of the Temple baking station in Bristol, a fire broke out, he was charged with the search for causes.

As a result, he developed metallumkleidete enclosures for protection from live conductors and developed valid principles for the safety of switchgear.

In February 1904 he moved - probably as a result of this fire - Ferranti to the small firm Walker & Hodgetts Ltd.. in Salford, but which was liquidated in November. Beginning of 1905 he went to Tyneside, where he supported Charles Hesterman Merz and Bernard Price in their developments of the Merz - Pice protective- gear. In 1906, he joined the local A. Reyrolle & Company.
