Herbert Gintis

Herbert Gintis ( born February 11, 1940 in Philadelphia ) is an American economist. He is Professor of Economics at the Central European University, external professor at the Santa Fe Institute, a visiting professor at the University of Siena and professor emeritus at the University of Massachusetts.

Life

Gintis studied mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania (BA, 1961) and Harvard University ( MA, 1962). His Ph.D. in Economics in 1969, he received also from Harvard University. 1973-1974 he was a professor at Harvard from 1975 to 2002 at the University of Massachusetts. As a visiting professor and lecturer he was during this time at Harvard University, the University of Paris, the University of Siena, New York University and Columbia University. Since 2001 he has been an external professor at the Santa Fe Institute, and since 2005 professor at the Central European University.

Work

Gintis research interests are behavioral economics, dynamics in general equilibrium theory, evolutionary game theory, the modeling of human cooperation, and the unification of the behavioral sciences. Gintis has written hundreds of scientific publications.
