Herbert Richter

Herbert Richter ( born April 26, 1947 in Chemnitz ) is a former racing cyclist from East Germany. In 1972, he won an Olympic silver medal in the team pursuit.

Richter began with 17 years at SC Karl- Marx-Stadt with the cycling, 1965, he won the GDR youth championship in the team time trial. At the World Cup 1970 Thomas Huschke, Heinz Richter, Herbert Richter and Manfred Ulbricht reached the final in the team pursuit, after the victory of the West German foursome received judges with his first international silver medal. A year later, faced off in the finals of four from Italy and from the GDR opposite; Huschke, Herbert Richter, Heinz Richter and Uwe Unterwalder again occupied the second place. The third silver medal at the highlight of the year in a row won the East German foursome in the same cast as in 1971 at the Olympic Games in Munich behind the quad from the Federal Republic of Germany. 1973 won Herbert Richter together with Manfred Ulbricht, the East German championship in a two - team driving and together with New and Wiegand won both in the Team Pursuit. At the World Cup in 1974 Huschke, Unterwalder and Herbert Richter achieved along with Klaus -Jürgen Grünke the finals again and once more the subject of four from the Federal Republic.

Herbert Richter is a qualified mechanical engineer. He worked before and after the turn of the construction industry.

In 1972 he was awarded for his sporting achievements the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze.
