Herbert Zelenko

Herbert Zelenko ( born March 16, 1906 in New York City; † February 23, 1979 ) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1955 and 1963 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Herbert Zelenko attended public schools. He graduated in 1926 from Columbia University and in 1928 at Columbia Law School. After receiving his license to practice law in 1929, he began practicing in New York City. As a lecturer he worked at the Practicing Law Institute and the Law Science Institute. He was the first Deputy United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1954 for the 84th Congress Zelenko was the 21st electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of the Jacob K. Javits on 4 January 1955. He was re-elected three times in a row. In 1962, his nomination for the 88th Congress, he was defeated and retired after January 3, 1963 from the Congress of.

After his conference time he went back to his work as a lawyer after. He died on February 23, 1979 in New York City and was then buried in the Sharon Gardens in Valhalla.
