Herberto Hélder

Herberto Helder (actually Herberto Hélder de Oliveira, born November 23, 1930 in Funchal, Madeira) is a Portuguese poet.

Career

Herberto Helder grew up in a family of Jewish origin, with 16 he moved to Lisbon on. He studied law and humanities in Coimbra, however, the study stopped prematurely. Later he worked for a bank and as an advertising agent.

He has published books of poetry in particular, but also prose.
