Hercules in New York is a 1969 arising under the direction of Arthur Allan Seidelman American B-movie, which is in particular so known because it was the first feature film with Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. Despite the rather poor quality of the film has especially among fans of Arnold Schwarzenegger due to his involuntary comedy a kind of cult status.

Action

Hercules, son of Zeus, it becomes boring after all these years in ancient Olympus. To give his life some variety, he decides against the will of his father Zeus to take a trip to Earth. A ship is floating in the sea Hercules and takes him on board - the team expects to have a castaway on. After the boat has invested in the port of New York City, Hercules goes without permission from board and gets involved in a tangible fight, in which he alone holds its own against six dockworkers.

The event is being watched by Pretzie, a slender man in his mid 40 that his livelihood earned by selling pretzels. Full of astonishment at the strong strangers he joins Hercules and organized a taxi, with which the two flee from the scene. Later in the day they reach a sports field on which a university professor is aware of the unusual duo, as the Hercules there training athletes with his superhuman performance steals the show. He invites the two for tea at his home.

During the next time Hercules spends his days with the attractive daughter of the professor and the city can show. Pretzie meanwhile is forced by a group of three criminals to sign a contract for Hercules as a wrestler with them - Hercules had previously earned on the advice of Prezie wrestling with some money and had been celebrated in the local press.

Nemesis Zeus, the supreme god of Olympus entrusted, under his order to punish Hercules because of his disobedience. Through an intrigue Hercules, however, taken his divine power on earth. He recognizes this as he takes part in a televised competition. After he has not won, he and Pretzie are being chased by the three criminals and their henchmen, with whom they have the contract enforced. This leads to a chase through the city and a subsequent battle at the Empire State Building. Hercules beats up well, but threatens to subject because of the large number of opponents against whom he has to fight simultaneously. From Mount Olympus, however, it Samson and Atlas are sent to help. His father Zeus, who observed everything about his magic ball, Hercules finally returns his divine powers, so that the criminals be defeated.

On the observation deck of the Empire State Building to Hercules last resort, to his father, confesses his selfishness and his disobedience and ask for readmission to Mount Olympus. Zeus met him his custom and letting it return.

Pretzie wonders about the disappearance of Hercules and returns sadly to his apartment, where he hears a message from Hercules on his radio, in which it thanked him Pretzie and ascribes courage. The film ends with Zeus by the tales of Hercules his crown on the throne leaves and, like his son at the beginning, makes his way to Earth.

  • The film was listed in the "IMDb bottom 100 ", the ranking of the 100 worst movies of all time, but was recently " overhauled " from other films. He is regarded in all respects as bungling work and therefore has its own, rather unintentional comedy.
  • The film shows Arnold Schwarzenegger - listed as " Arnold Strong" in the credits of the film - in his first role.
