Herend

Herend ( German: Mr. village ) is a village in Veszprém county in western Hungary. Well known is the town because of the famous Herend Porcelain Manufactory.

Herend is located 341 meters above the sea level.

History

Finds from the late Roman period show the origin of the settlement in the area. In the area of ​​the present town were in the Middle Ages a number of smaller villages. During the Ottoman occupation 1552-1566, the area was largely depopulated. After the expulsion of the Ottomans by the Habsburgs it came to the re-introduction and population growth 1764-1847. A significant German speaking minority was also located there.
