Herman Verlinde

Louis Herman Verlinde ( born January 21, 1962 in Woudenberg ) is a Dutch physicist who deals with string theory.

Life and work

Verlinde attended high school in Utrecht and then studied from 1980 at the University of Utrecht, where he was in 1988 with Gerardus ' t Hooft PhD ("The path integral formula tion of supersymmetric string theory" ). After that, he was in 1988 at Princeton University, where he was an Assistant Professor in 1990. In 1994 he was at the University of Amsterdam, where in 1995 he became professor. From 1998 he is a professor at Princeton. In 1997 he was co-organizer of the "Strings 97 " conference in Amsterdam.

He was from 1994 to 1997 Sloan Fellow and 1994-1998 Fellow of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences.

Herman Verlinde is the twin brother of Erik Verlinde, which is also known as a string theorist and with whom he worked partially.
