History

Woudenberg, namely the location in the municipality office Hengistscoto ( Henschoten ) was first documented in 777, when Charlemagne gave the territory of the Martini Church in the city of Utrecht. The intersection of the paths of Austerlitz to Woudenberg and from Doorn to Amersfoort an inn was built near a church in the 13th century. The crossing was also known as Quatre -Bras. Nearby there was a wooded hill. Therefore, it was the emerging village, which was only 4 km from Quatre- Bras, called Woudenberg ( woud s = mountain forest and mountain ).

Around 1350 was a chateau in the amount of today's road 't Schilt. This was also the name of the castle.

1410 a castle near the church between now Burgwal ( castle wall ) and the Middenstraat arose. From this castle ( De Burgwal ) have remained, no remnants left.

The village grew slowly, so that the population of only about 1900 inhabitants reached the 500 - mark. Most of the inhabitants were farmers. The street name tobacco country reminded that tobacco was grown in the municipality.

The village kept its rural character until the sixties of the 20th century. Only then it started, especially after the authorities the location einstuften as groeikern (driven ) to grow to its present size.
