Zeist

( Listen? / I ) Zeist is a municipality in the Netherlands, Utrecht. It consists of the main town of Zeist and the villages of Austerlitz and Den Dolder.

Location and economic

Zeist is located about seven kilometers east of the city of Utrecht on the edge of the forest " Utrecht Ridge ". Roads and railway lines connect the town with the neighboring city. The station Driebergen- Zeist lies on the line between Cologne and Arnhem- Utrecht. In Den Dolder, there is a small railway station on the line Utrecht - Amersfoort. Between 1910 and 1949 reversed an electric tram between Utrecht and Zeist.

The location Zeists has led to sanatoria, nursing homes, clinics and psychiatric hospitals have settled in Zeist and the surrounding area. Attractions

The village grew up around the castle Zeist Zeist, which in its present form was built in 1686 (architect Jacob Roman). In the 18th century, here the Moravians moved to ( Zeister Synod 1746 ). Outside the castle the Moravians built from 1748 a new settlement, consisting of two large squares, the Broeder and the Zusterplein ( brothers and sister course ). Here was a thriving community. Zeist many trained missionaries were sent here to Suriname. The Brethren Zeist still exists today, the plant with church hall and graveyard is worth seeing. The castle was built after it changed hands several times in the 19th century, bought in 1924 by the city of Zeist. The village of Austerlitz was born in 1806 to a monument to the Battle of Three Emperors in 1805 at Austerlitz in Moravia. In the 2004 restored Pyramid of Austerlitz now is a small amusement park.

The wooded area attracts walkers and cyclists.
