Hermann Guido von Samson-Himmelstjerna

Hermann Guido Samson of Himmelstjerna (born 18 Januarjul / January 30 1809greg on Good Korast (Estonian: Kooraste ), community Kannapäh (Estonian: Kanepi ) in Estonia; † 18 Januarjul / January 30 1868greg in Dorpat. .. . ) was a Baltic German military doctor and university professor in Dorpat.

Life

As the son of the landowner Karl Hermann Christian Samson Samson attended the Gymnasium in Dorpat. From 1826, he initially studied for three years of law, then to 1832 Medicine. In 1834 he received a doctorate in med. He was a member of the Corps Curonia Goettingensis VII (1823 ) and honorary member of the Curonia Dorpat.

His scientific studies, he continued in Berlin, Würzburg and Vienna under Carl von Rokitansky. In 1836 he married the daughter of the king in Wurzburg Country Judge Peter von Welz.

Back in his homeland, he first entered the service of the Navy. He was hired on April 12, 1837 in St. Petersburg on Kalinkin Hospital and made in the following years, short sea voyages. In July 1842 he moved on as assistant medical director of the Alexander Cadet Corps to Brest -Litovsk.

On May 28, 1845 Samson was appointed at the University of Dorpat as Full Professor at the new Department of State for pharmacy. Assigned it was also the clinical training of future military doctors, he devoted himself to the city hospital. From January 21, 1865 until his death he was rector of the University of Dorpat.
