Hermann Guthe

Friedrich Wilhelm Leopold Hermann Guthe ( born May 10, 1849 in Wester Linde; † August 11, 1936 in Leipzig ) was a German Old Testament scholar and Palaestinaforscher.

Hermann Guthe studied from 1867 to 1870 in Göttingen and Erlangen theology. In 1877 he qualified as a professor in Leipzig and was there from 1884 until his retirement in 1921 professor of Old Testament. In 1877 he was co-founder of the "German Society for the Exploration of Palestine ".
