Hermann Rüdisühli

Hermann Traugott Rüdisühli ( born June 10, 1864 in Lenzburg, Switzerland, † January 27, 1944 in Munich) was a Swiss painter. He belongs to the family of artists Rüdisühli.

Rüdisühli painted landscapes, portraits and allegories. His work includes mythological and heroic images. Rüdisühli was significantly influenced by Arnold Böcklin. His oeuvre comprises more than 1,000 paintings.

Largest admirers and collectors of his work is Johannes Neckermann, son of the well-known shipping merchant and dressage rider Josef Neckermann. Living in the USA Neckermann has been collecting for over 25 years, the images of the artist family Rüdisühli.

The American Yager Museum, Oneonta, NY, the collection presented in 2001. 105 years since the first time an exhibition showed this painting of the whole family of artists.

Biography

Hermann Rüdisühli studied from 1883 to 1887 at the academy in Karlsruhe with Ferdinand Keller and Karl Brno. Between 1888 and 1898 he headed painting schools in Stuttgart and Basel. In 1898 he moved to Munich. Rüdisühli achieved initially in Munich with his paintings, especially in aristocratic circles great success.

He last lived in poverty and died after his home and studio was destroyed by a bomb attack by suicide.
