Hermann Simon

Hermann Simon ( born February 10, 1947 in Hasborn ) is a German management consultant and business professor. Simon is also active as an author and columnist since 1988 as manager magazin.

Career

Simon grew up on a farm in the Eifel. In 1966 he graduated from high school at the Cusanus -Gymnasium in Wittlich. From 1967 to 1969 he served as a reserve officer cadets at the Air Force Fighter Bomber Wing 33 in Büchel. He is a lieutenant in the reserve. After studying economics and business administration in Cologne and Bonn from 1969 to 1973, he was awarded his doctorate in 1976. In 1979 he habilitated in Horst Albach in Bonn. Simon was 1978/1979 postdoctoral fellow of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and during this time a Visiting Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

University career

From 1979 to 1989 Simon taught business administration and marketing at the University of Bielefeld from 1989 to 1995 at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. From 1984 to 1986, Simon -President of the European Marketing Academy ( EMAC ) and 1985-1988 Scientific Director of the University Seminar of the economy (USW ), today European School of Management and Technology in Schloss Gracht. As a visiting professor he taught at six universities: 1979 at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna, in 1983 at the Keio University in Tokyo, in 1984 at Stanford University, INSEAD in Fontainebleau ( 1980-1985 ) at Harvard Business School (1988 - 1989) and the London Business School ( 1991-2002 ). Simon has published in scientific journals such as Management Science, and Journal of Marketing Research, as well as more operational in journals such as Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review. In 1995, Simon ended his academic career.

Corporate practice

Simon also began to act on the scientific career path in business. In 1985 he founded with former doctoral student, a consulting company, which now operates under the name Simon, Kucher & Partners and their specialty is pricing guidance. He was from 1995 to 2009 Chairman of the Board / CEO. Since 2009 he is chairman of Simon- Kucher. Simon is also on the boards of public limited companies and trustees. Simon has published over 30 books that have been translated into 25 languages. He is a columnist since 1988 in manager magazin. The book " Hidden Champions" from 1996 appeared in Germany under the title The secret winner. In "Hidden Champions of the 21st Century" Simon explores the strategies of lesser known, mid-sized world market leader. His most recent book "The economic trends of the future " was published in February 2011. In August 2012, with "Hidden Champions - Film Globalia " another work of his master theme appeared.

He was awarded the Erich Gutenberg Prize 2009, awarded by the Erich Gutenberg Association. For the work " Price Management " (2010) Simon was awarded the Georg- Bergler award for the marketing economy together with Martin Fassnacht. Furthermore, Simon 's 2012 winner of the Business-to- Business Service Award in the Lifetime Achievement category. This prize is awarded by the Lünendonk GmbH and the Maleki Group. As part of its Annual Meeting in Bolzano the Association of University Teachers awarded for Business Research (VHB ) Simon the price, Science Oriented Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 '.

The IEDC - Bled School of Management, Slovenia gave Hermann Simon in 2009 for the academic title of Doctor honoris causa ( Dr. hc ). Another Simon received an honorary doctorate in 2011 from the University of Siegen. The University of International Business and Trade in Beijing / China ( UIBE ) awarded him the title " Honorary Professor of Management."
