Hermann Zabel

Hermann Zabel ( born September 22, 1832 in New Katzow near Greifswald, † April 26, 1912 in Gotha ) was a German botanist. Its official botanical author abbreviation is " Zabel "; earlier was also the abbreviation " Zab. ​​" in use.

Zabel specialized in Dendrology. He was from 1854 to 1860 assistant at the Botanical Garden and Museum in Greifswald. From 1869 to 1895 he was director of the Academy of Forestry in Hann Munden. The plant genus Zabelia ( Rehder ) Makino from the family of Linnaeaceae has been named in his honor.
