Fernando del Pulgar (* probably before 1430 in the area of Toledo, † probably after 1492, also: Hernando del Pulgar ) was secretary of the Iberian royal courts, Ambassador and chronicler.

Life

We do not know exactly when and where Fernando del Pulgar was born. Presumably he was but born in the region of Toledo, the son of Diego Rodríguez de Toledo Pulgar before 1430. Two other theses call the year 1425 or the year 1436th Fernando del Pulgar was probably a ' Converso ' or at least of converts came from.

He grew up at the court of King John II, and later became secretary of Henry IV of Castile. For this he carried out diplomatic assignments.

After the death of Henry IV, he worked (probably from 1474 ) as Secretary, Ambassador and finally. Well as chronicler for Queen Isabella I, even if he did not stay in the years 1478-1482 at the court The reason for the withdrawal from public life probably lies in the fact that he had suffered through criticism of the Inquisition the displeasure of some people.

He seems to have begun with his large and important chronicle Crónica de los Reyes Catolicos even in the days when he still stayed away from the royal court. Then leave in any case include letters that tell of the great deeds of the respective sender. Also a letter from Fernando del Pulgar to the Queen from 1482 AD may be mentioned here, since it already but writes this of his Crónica also of his speedy return to the court.

About his death we know nothing, but from his works ( Crónica de los Reyes Catolicos, Tratado de los Reyes de Granada), one can conclude that he died after 1492, since these texts of events from this year know.
