HeroClix

HeroClix is a strategy game with collectible miniatures, which is produced by the company WizKids and laid in the German-speaking area of Pegasus Games. The pieces can be used as starter ( includes everything you need to start playing ) and as a booster (included four randomly put together, not well-known figures on the purchase ) to buy. Most of the characters is only available in boosters.

History

In 2001, WizKids brought the first game of its kind, Mage Knight, on the market. The principle of a strategy game in which the playing pieces have been collected, was hugely popular and was a great success.

For this reason, the company with HeroClix developed in the following year, an analog game with the difference that the game characters not fantasy characters were used, but well-known comic characters from the Marvel universe. The target audience was thus extended to comic fans, which contributed to the great success, the HeroClix experienced it. It has received several major American Game Awards in 2002 and 2003.

After the success of the first edition several extensions have been published. While at first only Marvel characters were used now superheroes and villains of DC and various smaller publishers such as Top Cow Productions, and Crossgen Dark Horse Comics were added.

With time, several enhancements and new features were added to the game. So organized by game stores tournaments with special characters ( so-called limited editions ) are supported, the extensions are now theme- based more, there were feature and Battlefield Cards added to the game concept, and with the new Buy it by the Brick program, there is a new marketing concept. This real games traders are matched Internet retailers preferred since only the former Bricks ( Pack of twelve boosters) are allowed to sell. By purchasing a Bricks the customer receives the opportunity to purchase various otherwise not available special characters.

In addition, four collector's sets were brought to the market, small editions of five to seven figures, to be delivered on priority Brick buyers. The idea was abandoned and in the future Action Packs are instead published that are equally available to all. An action pack contains some of the figures sometimes even a game plan or other extras that did not exist in collector's sets.

Several people recorded previously responsible for the game development:

  • Jeff Quick - 2002
  • Mike Mulvihill - 2002

  • Jeff Grubb - 2003
  • Jon Leitheußer - 2003-2005
  • Seth Johnson - 2005-2008
  • Kelly Bonilla - 2008

November 10, 2008 Topps announced the closure of WizKids and the end of all product lines. A movement of fans who campaigned under the Internet address www.saveheroclix.com for the continuation of the game, led to success: The rights should be acquired by Pinata games. The purchase failed, however, and so the licenses were, together with the company Wizkids only in October 2009 bought by the U.S. company National Entertainment Collectibles Association Inc. ( NECA ). The first extension of the house of NECA / Wizkids came on 18 November 2009, almost exactly one year after the supposed end of Heroclix as the " Hammer of Thor " on the market.

The game

Is usually played in pairs, but there may be three or four players to play. As pitch is a pre-produced card or self -drawn map, over which a grid was laid with small squares the size of a figure. The playing field can contain free, water (eg pool), obstacle -rich (eg tree) and all blocking (eg wall) 's grounds, indoors (eg in the home ) and outside. In addition, there are also elevated terrain ( house roofs, etc. ). The different types of terrain affect the movement and combat behavior of game characters.

Each player turns previously together a team of heroes and villains. Each character has seven characteristics:

  • Speed: how many fields may move a character?
  • Attack Rating
  • Defense value
  • Damage value
  • Range and number of targets in ranged combat
  • Team membership
  • Score: summarizes the strength of a character in a number

The first four values are on the combat dial attached to a base of the figure the rotary disc, and printed by the rotation (or click ) are changed during the game. In addition to these values , which are represented by numbers, characters can also various additional forces (at the time 48 in number) have; Superman, for example, has super strength. In addition, there are characters who fly and those who can swim.

Before the game, the players agree on how many points added together their characters may have a total of (a multiple of hundred, for example, 300 points) and accordingly represent a team, which may not exceed this maximum number of points.

Now it is for the players concerned with attacking with their own figures, the team of the enemy via melee or ranged combat. The attack, proceed as follows: The attacking player rolls two dice sechsäugigen. The result is added to the attack value. If this value is less than the defense value of the disputed figure, then it receives as much damage as the damage value of the attacker is. The damage can now be increased or reduced by a variety of the aforementioned additional forces. If the final value is fixed, the Combat Dial the attacked figure to many clicks is rotated as the damage is. Now, the newly displayed, normally weak values apply to the figure. If a character enough damage has been done, the Combat Dial displays as the value of KO and the figure must be removed from the game. The game will be continued until all the characters of a player KO.

Due to the different types of terrain, additional forces, the team membership and the feature Battlefield cards and so highly complex game situations may arise, but also need a little luck of the dice next to a good strategy in order to emerge victorious from it.
