Herpangina

Herpangina

The Herpangina (also Zahorsky 's disease ) is a disorder of the oral mucosa, which occurs preferentially in young children.

It is caused by an infection with coxsackie virus ( type A).

It mainly affects the palatine arches, but sometimes the tonsils. Evident are then characteristic vesicles or shallow ulcers with dark red areola. Accompanying occur almost always fever and fatigue on, often vomiting and headache. The disease lasts only a few days and runs without complications. Since the clinical signs are characteristic, the detection of the virus in the stool is not necessary or of antibodies in the blood serum. The treatment is symptomatic.

Differential Diagnosis

  • Herpetic gingivostomatitis
  • Mouth - hand-foot disease
