Herrengasse (Vienna U-Bahn)

The station Herrngasse the U3 in the 1st district of Vienna Inner City was opened on April 6, 1991. The station, which is located directly under the government district with Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Federal Chancellery and Office of the President and extending between Wallnerstraße and the Minoritenplatz, was named after Mr. Alley, which refers to the former seat of the Government of Lower Austria. The platforms are located as side platforms in two separate tunnels.

Outputs are on the one hand by means of escalators in the flags alley, a short connecting street between Wallnerstraße and Mr. Alley, on the other hand by lift and stairs fixed to the Minoritenplatz. Thus, the station is accessible. The stairway Herrngasse is connected via the Wallnerstraße with the inner-city pedestrian carbon market Tuchlauben Trench Kärntner Straße.

The construction of this section of the U3 began in November 1983 and proved to be unexpectedly difficult: on 13 July 1987 with mercury found in the area of this station under the Lower Austrian Landhaus contaminated soil.
