Herwig Reiter

Herwig Reiter (born 26 June 1941 in Waidhofen an der Thaya ) is an Austrian conductor and composer.

Biography

Herwig Reiter comes from a musical family, his father Albert Reiter was also a music teacher and composer. He was first alto soloist with the Vienna Boys' Choir. Even before completing his studies, he was engaged as conductor of the Vienna Boys Choir, where he worked from 1963 to 1970.

From 1964 to 1980 he worked on a Viennese School, where he teamed up with Gertraud Cerha and Roswitha Helmberg a type of school in which music and visual arts play a prominent role. By 2002 he was at the university, and later Vienna Music University, a professor of didactics and conducting.

In addition, he worked at the University of Music in Vienna as a conductor, manager and worked as a lecturer and juror at the National Youth Singing in Spittal an der Drau. Reiter founded the Young Orchestra Vienna Chamber Choir and the weavers. In Japan, he is also known by touring in Austria through broadcasts on the radio.

Since taking up his retirement he devoted himself mainly to his compositions. Herwig Reiter's compositions have been published on CD, his first opera Campiello was premiered by the New Opera Vienna 2010. Reiter also wrote two textbooks for Music Education ( listening and designing ) and a choir book by which he is known in the Austrian choral scene.
