Herzberg (Richelsdorfer Gebirge)

The Heart Mountain in northern Hesse Hersfeld-Rotenburg district is 478.2 m above sea level with. NN is the highest mountain in Richelsdorfer Mountains.

Geographical location

The Herzberg rises 2 km southeast of Nentershausen and 1.3 km northeast of Bauhaus ( to Nentershausen ), which lie respectively on the hazel, and 1.8 km northwest of the weirs located at the Sweet ( to Nentershausen ) and 3.5 km (as the crow flies) west-southwest of lying on the bare Blank Bach ( to Sontra ).

Mining

On Herzberg was for centuries a focus of mining activities in the Richelsdorfer Mountains. Was located at its southern slope of the Schwerspatgrube William I and a few hundred meters to the west lay the copper slate quarry light hole and the pit snipe bush. Since the 1930s, is again a hut, which prepared the copper shale and barite. The factory site is now a company that has emerged from this smelter and until very recently produced pigments for color production here.

Tannenberg castle

On a 900 m north-northwest of Herzberg summit altitude mountain spur ( 351 m) is the medieval castle Tannenberg.
