Herzegovina Eyalet

The eyalet Herzegovina ( Ottoman ایالت هرسك, IA eyalet -i Hersek ) or the pashalik of Herzegovina was from 1462/1833 bis 1851 eyalet or pashalik of the Ottoman Empire. The capital was last Mostar.

History

The Pashalik originally started as Sanjak of the Ottoman Empire, which was founded in 1462 with headquarters in Foca. The first Sanjak -beg of Herzegovina was Hamza -beg.

The seat of the Sanjak was later moved Pljevlja ( Taslidža ). The Sanjak of Herzegovina was part of Eyâlets Rumelia and later part of the pashalik of Bosnia.

In 1833, the Sanjak of Herzegovina was separated from the pashalik of Bosnia and converted into a new Pashalik. Ali -Pasha Rizvanbegović, a native of Herzegovina, the semi-independent ruler ( vizier ) of the newly formed pashaliks was. After his death in 1851 the pashalik Herzegovina was finally dissolved and merged its territory with the pashalik of Bosnia.

After being affiliated with Bosnia again, the Herzegovina was split again in 1864 into an independent administrative unit as the Vilayet Herzegovina ( Hersek Vilâyeti ). This was in 1878, along with Bosnia, occupied by Austria - Hungary and both annexed in 1908, whereby the entity of present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina was established.

The pashalik of Herzegovina was formed from the following counties: Prijepolje Taslidža with Kolasin and Šaranci with Drobnjak, Cajnice, Nevesinje, Nikšić, Ljubinje - Trebinje, Stolac, Počitelj Blagaj, Mostar, Ratko Peric and half of the county of Konjic with the south side of Neretva.
