Hesse-Marburg

Hesse - Marburg was a short-lived country county, which emerged in 1567 from land county Hessen.

Landgrave Philipp I of Hesse possessed testamentary the division of his inheritance among the four sons from his first marriage. His second son Ludwig IV received with Upper Hesse, known as the "Land of the Lahn ", about a quarter of the rural county. He resided in Marburg and thus justified the Hessen- Marburg of the Hessian princely house, but with his death already went out again.

Louis IV was able to greatly expand his territory by inheritance and purchase. Until 1599 Itter, the Community Bingen missing shares (without Reichel home ) and the city of Butzbach, city and department Lißberg and Ullrich stone, the court Lollar, the villages Heuchelheim, Rodheim, Fellingshausen and great lime trees were added. Marburger succession dispute

Because of his childlessness areas of Louis IV went in 1604 to his two nephews, the Landgrave of Hesse -Kassel and Hesse -Darmstadt, but possessed by him under the condition that the Lutheran Confessions state would be maintained.

Disputes over this division and the Landgrave Moritz of Hesse- Kassel consummated change to the Reformed confession had a decades-long dispute over inheritance between Hesse -Kassel and Hesse -Darmstadt result.

Although this came in 1627 with the abdication of Landgrave Moritz and the cession of Upper Hesse in Hesse-Darmstadt to a preliminary conclusion, but lived from 1645 to 1648 in the so-called Hesse war again.
