Hexagrammidae

Lingcod ( Ophiodon elongatus )

The green compacts ( Hexagrammidae ) are bony fish from the partial order of Gropp relatives ( Cottales ). They live on the coasts of the northern Pacific Ocean, from Japan to California.

Features

There are elongated, predatory, soil-dwelling fish without swimbladder. The head is unbestachelt, they have only one dorsal fin, which has a dent between the hartstrahligen and soft-rayed part. The first part has 16 to 28 hard jets, the second 11 to 30 soft rays. The pelvic fins have one hard and five soft rays, the anal fin not to exceed three hard - and six or seven soft rays. The lateral line organ is uniform or divided into up to five parts. Most green compacts are about half a meter long, 1.5 meters Ophiodon elongatus.

The animals are still poorly understood. Some species are fished commercially.

System

There are ten species in four genera, all of which will be provided in their own subfamilies.

  • Green compacts ( Hexagrammidae ) Hexagramminae Hexagrammos (5 species)
  • Ophiodon ( 1 species )
  • Oxylebius ( 1 species )

In some classifications (eg, Nelson ( 2006) ) and the comb green compacts ( Zaniolepis ) are provided as a subfamily Zaniolepidinae in the family.
