Hexylamine ( precisely n-hexylamine ) is a chemical compound selected from the group of aliphatic amines. It is also a primary amine.

Properties

Hexylamine is a flammable, volatile, colorless liquid with an amine-like odor, which is slightly soluble in water. It decomposes when heated, whereby nitrogen oxides, Nitrogen oxides and nitrosamines. Their aqueous solution is strongly alkaline.

Use

Hexylamine is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of rubber chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and dyes.

Safety

The vapors of hexylamine can combine with air to form an explosive mixture (flash point 27 ° C).
