Hidaka Subprefecture

Hidaka (Japanese日 高 支 庁, Hidaka- Shinko - kyoku ) is a sub-prefecture of Hokkaido Prefecture. It has an area of ​​4811.91 km ² and a population of 82 281 (as at 30 September 2005).

History

1897, the sub-prefecture was Urakawa (浦 河 支 庁, Urakawa - shicho ) was established. In 1932 it was renamed the sub-prefecture Hidaka (日 高 支 庁, Hidaka- shicho ). Hidaka was the name of a province of the same name which was located here from 1869 to 1882 before the establishment of prefectures.

In the reorganization of Hokkaidō April 1, 2010 renaming in Hidaka- Shinko - kyoku, as well as the administrative subordination to the sub-prefecture Iburi was.

Geography

The western foothills of the Hidaka Mountains extend over large parts of sub-prefecture. Hidaka is sparsely populated and is home to many of Hokkaido's natural resources.

Reclassifications

  • On March 1, 2006, the cities Mombetsu and Hidaka concluded from the district Saru together for new city Hidaka.
  • On 31 March 2006, the cities Mitsuishi from the district Mitsuishi and Shizunai from the district Shizunai merged to form the new city Shinhidaka together in the newly created district also Hidaka. The counties Mitsuishi and Shizunai were both dissolved.
