The Shaggy Hawkweed ( Hieracium villosum ) is a plant of the genus hawkweed ( Hieracium ).

Description

The perennial herbaceous plant reaches heights of growth between 10 and 40 centimeters. What is striking is the white shaggy hair, the hair can be three to 10 millimeters long. The tongue-shaped basal leaves are arranged in rosettes and almost entire. The stem leaves are sessile or half-clasping the stem.

The stem is simple or branched gablig with one to four flower heads. In the flower heads lot of yellow flowers are borne fünfzipfelige tongue, which are ciliated on the external teeth often.

Bloom time is from July to August.

Occurrence

The kalkstete plant prefers dry skimmed lawn, debris and rock corridors or bare rock. This species is found in the mountains of East Central Europe as well as in southern Europe at altitudes 1100-2700 meters above mean sea level.
