Hilary Knight (ice hockey)

Hilary Atwood Knight ( born July 12, 1989 in Hanover, New Hampshire) is an American ice hockey player who has won numerous medals with the U.S. national team at the World Championships. Since 2012 she plays for the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.

Career

Hilary grew up in a skier's household, her parents could not ice skating. Her cousin Chip Knight was represented three times as a skier at the Winter Olympics. At the age of two years, Hilary Knight was the first time on skis before her mother had the idea that they should also learn to skate. As Hilary was five years old, her family moved from California to Chicago, where she began to play ice hockey. Her three younger brothers also learned this sport and Hilary always had the desire to be " better than my younger brothers."

As a student, she played for Choate Rosemary Hall and the U19 team the Connecticut Polar Bears. After graduating from high school, she had numerous offers from colleges that she wanted to record. Knight chose the University of Wisconsin, since there with Mark Johnson worked an experienced hockey coach who was parallel national coach and to prepare them in view of the Olympic Winter Games 2010.

Success in the NCAA

Hilary Knight played four years of college hockey in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association ( WCHA ), a league of the NCAA. She reached in all four years with the Wisconsin Badgers, the ice hockey team of the University, the final tournament of the NCAA, the so-called Frozen Four. While the Badgers in 2008 and 2012, lost the final at the NCAA Championships, they won the final game of the Frozen Four in 2009 and 2011, reaching the College Cup in those two years.

During the 2009/10 season Hilary Knight interrupted their studies to prepare themselves with the national team and coach Mark Johnson on the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.

CWHL

After she had finished her studies in 2012, she was hired by the Boston Blades of the CWHL and won with her new team, the 2013 Clarkson Cup. Thus, Knight has won three major trophies in the Women Hockey. For the services shown in the course of the season she was also named most valuable player.

Internationally

Hilary Knight began early in her career, to represent the United States internationally. She was a member of the junior national teams of the United States. In 2006, she debuted at the 4 Nations Cup for the women's team. Their first World Cup in 2007 and she completed was the youngest player of the national team, with whom she won the silver medal. As a result, she ran (until 2014 ) to five world championships, winning three gold and another silver medal. In its first Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010 they scored a goal and seven assists, and thus helped their team to win the silver medal. At the World Championships in 2011, which were held in Switzerland, she was with five goals and nine assists top-scorer of the tournament and was duly elected to the All- Star team.
