Hildegardia cubensis

Hildegardia is a plant genus of the subfamily of Sterculiaceae ( Sterculioideae ) in the mallow family ( Malvaceae ).

Description

Hildegardia species are trees. They have thin, broad oval leaves, the lobed whole or easily, and at the bottom are heart-shaped.

There are both species with hermaphroditic as well as with unisexual flowers. Are formed terminal, racemose inflorescences. The four to five usually reddish sepals remain fused tubular to fruit maturity exist. As with the other species of the tribe the petals of the flowers are completely absent. The ten to 15 dust and the five carpels sitting on a Androgynophor.

Hildegardia species differ from others of the tribe by their fruits, which are surrounded by a thin, membranous sheath, which remains closed during fruit ripening.

Dissemination

The genus is pantropical widespread, with individual species, however, are not pantropical, but come from different regions.

  • Hildegardia erythrosiphon ( Baill. ) Kosterm. , Is found in Madagascar
  • Hildegardia gillettii LJDorr & LCBarnett, occurs in Somalia
  • Hildegardia merrittii ( Merrill ) Kosterm. , Occurs in the Philippines
  • Hildegardia migeodii ( Exell ) Kosterm. , Is found in Tanzania
  • Hildegardia perrieri ( Hochr. ) Arenes, is found in Madagascar
  • Hildegardia populifolia ( Roxb. & Wall. ) Schott & Endl. , Occurs in India
  • Hildegardia sundaica Kosterm. , Is found in Indonesia ( Sumbawa ).
