Hilton McConnico

Joseph Hilton McConnico ( born May 13, 1943 in Memphis, Tennessee ) is an American designer and artist who lives in Paris. Mainly worked as a product designer, McConnico also acts as a successful interior designer, painter, decorator, Production Designer, Costume Designer, Actor and screenwriter. For his screenshots in the film The Moon in the Gutter he was awarded the César 1984.

Life

Since 1965, the artist lives in Paris. He works as a designer for fashion houses ( Ted Lapidus, Yves Saint -Laurent ) and producers of commodities. For the company Daum ( crystal glass), Toulemonde Bochart (carpets ) and Lampe Berger ( lighting), he created objects that are included in permanent collections of several museums. He was the first American whose works were included in the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the Louvre. Other pieces are in museums in Oslo, New York and Lausanne.

The cooperation with thumb began McConnico 1987. Several of his pieces were created there passed George HW Bush of François Mitterrand as state gifts. Since 1998 McConnico works for Lampe Berger. He designed for the Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris and also its decorative paintings to exhibitions brought him notoriety. In 1990, the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art showed a retrospective of 30 years of his work.

Recent projects McConnicos included the redesign of the " Toupary " restaurants on the fifth floor of the historic department store " La Samaritaine " in the Rue de Rivoli in Paris. For Hermès in 2006, he designed the interiors of the flagship stores in Tokyo (designed by architect Renzo Piano ) and Seoul ( Architect: Réna Dumas ). In 2007 he designed the exhibition space for the presentations in Hong Kong and Shanghai. He also designed the Hermes Museum in Tokyo. In 2010 he designed the Hermes after 53 years for the first time organized show-jumping Grand Palais in Paris.

Movies

McConnico worked as a Production Designer and Art Director in more than 20 films. For his dressing he was in the "Best Production Design " three times nominated for a César Award in the category: 1978 Sweet delusion for the film and 1982 for Divaa. The César received in 1984 for "The Moon in the Gutter ".
