Hindenburg, Saxony-Anhalt

Hindenburg since December 31, 2008, a district of the municipality Hohenberg- Mark Kruse in the district of Stendal, in the Altmark in northern Saxony-Anhalt ( Germany ).

Geography

Hindenburg is located on the southern edge of the Altmark Wipe and is about 20 km north of Stendal and 7 km from the left bank of the Elbe away. The mostly flat area around Hindenburg is crossed by numerous rivers and ditches ( Cositte, balsam ditch ).

History

The town was first mentioned in a 1283 deed of sale at the St. John Commandery in Advertising (Elbe ). From this period dates the Romanesque stone church. A dike order for Hindenburg and environment has already been proven for the year 1436. During the Thirty Years' War the city had suffered greatly from quartering of troops and swipes. Beginning of the 19th century taught three large fires in Hindenburg to significant damage.

The formerly independent village was 1874-1945 Office of Administration regional center for the surrounding communities.

To the 725th anniversary of the mention of the place was held from 20 to 22 June 2008, a community festival with a big parade instead.

Von Hindenburg lead star-shaped five highways, among others in the surrounding towns Osterburg ( Altmark), Arneburg and Advertise (Elbe ). About 12 kilometers west of Hindenburg runs the main road 189 The nearest railway station on the railway line Stendal - Wittenberg is located in Goldbeck, 7 km away.
