Eson Hippo Transportation

Hippo Transportation is a genus within the family of butterfly moth ( Sphingidae ).

Features

The front wings are very elongated and pointed to run, as the abdomen is long and pointed. The antennae of the female are thickened club-shaped at the end, which the males are rod-shaped. The last term is short. The labial palps are scaly soft on the outside, but they lack the upstanding hairs, as they occur in the genus Deilephila. The scales at the top of the first segment are regularly arranged on the inside and so form a straight dividing line. On the second segment is located at the tip of a hair tuft. The tibiae of the hind legs have two pairs of spurs, the inner longer than the outer ones.

The genitalia differ only slightly from those of the genera Deilephila and Theretra.

The eggs are small, spherical and brilliantly green.

The caterpillars have a tapered back body and can move their head. The first and second abdominal segment are thickened and wear eye patches. The Analhorn is slightly curved backwards.

When the suction pipe Doll with the body is connected. He is keeled and laterally flattened and looks so similar, as in species of the genus Theretra. The cremaster is long and pointed. It has no spines on the sharp, shiny top.

Way of life

The caterpillars feed mainly on herbaceous plants and vines from the families of the grapevine family ( Vitaceae ), aroids ( Araceae ), miracle flower plants ( Nyctaginaceae ), Madder ( Rubiaceae ), buckwheat family ( Polygonaceae ) and evening primrose family ( Onagraceae ).
