HMS E18

HMS E18 was a submarine of U- boat class E of the Royal Navy, which was used in World War I in the Baltic and in May 1916 fell in the coastal waters of Estonia Ostseegouvernements of Tsarist Russia.

E18 belonged to improved subgroup (E Grp2 ) of submarines of the E-Class, which consisted of 46 boats.

The boat under the command of Lt. Cdr. Robert Halahan moved in 1915, together with E19 through the Øresund in the Baltic Sea to support there with HMS E1 the Baltic Fleet of the Imperial Russian Navy in the battle against German shipping movements.

E18 ran out to his last ride together with HMS E8 and a Russian submarine in the Amerikanski - Goll Anda- class (American Holland class) from the port of Reval (Tallinn ) on 25 May 1916.

The British historian Michael Wilson suggested that E18 on June 2, aground on a mine and sank. Other sources point out that E18 was sunk by the merchant ship disguised as a German ship SMS Lockschiff K.

End of October 2009 discovered a remote-controlled underwater robot of the Swedish marine exploration company MMT belonging research vessel MV Triad the wreck of E18 near the Estonian island of Hiiumaa.
