HMS Enterprise

The name HMS Enterprise ( partly Enterprize ) contributed or carry various British ships. The prefix HMS stands for His / Her Majesty 's Ship and identifies the ship as part of the British Royal Navy.

List of vessels

  • Enterprise ( 1705), originally a French frigate, which was captured by the British and placed under a new name in service in 1705.
  • HMS Enterprise ( 1709).
  • A ship was planned as the HMS Enterprise, but renamed shortly before launch in 1741 HMS Liverpool.
  • HMS Enterprize ( 1743).
  • A ship was found to be 1693 HMS Norwich in service and renamed in 1744 in HMS Enterprise.
  • HMS Enterprize (1774 ), eponym for a class of frigates.
  • A 1778 HMS Resource put into service ship, which was renamed in 1803 in HMS Enterprize; Sister ship of the HMS Enterprize (1774 ).
  • HMS Enterprise ( 1848).
  • HMS Enterprise ( 1864), the ship was originally called HMS Circassian. The name, however, was changed before launched in 1862 in HMS Enterprise.
  • HMS Enterprise ( D52 ), a light cruiser was commissioned in 1919.
  • HMS Enterprise ( A71 ), put into service in 1958.
  • HMS Enterprise ( H88 ), a put into service in 2002 research ship of the Royal Navy.

Another ship named HMS Enterprise was planned in 1861. The ship's name was, however, still be changed during construction in HMS Circassian, and the construction in 1863 canceled altogether.

Ships with Enterprise name without the prefix HMS

Four other ships named Enterprise were without, however, to bear in connection with the British Royal Navy in the use of the prefix HMS on behalf of:

  • A ship of the East India Company.
  • Towing vessel in the port of Portsmouth in 1899 put into service.
  • Enterprise and Enterprise II, support vessels that were in use during the First World War.
