The HMS Leviathan was a ship of the line 3rd class, which decreed as two-decker 74 guns of different calibers. Their concept was designed after the French ship Courageux. This battleship was conquered in 1761, incorporated into the Royal Navy and failed in 1796 on the coast of North Africa. According to the concept of the Leviathan another five ships were built until 1808. The last ship of the class was canceled in 1855. The Leviathan was appointed on December 9, 1779 and sent to the Chatham Dockyard in May 1782 Kiel. On October 9, 1790 launch took place.

The ship was sent in 1798 by the blockading squadron off Toulon with another ship of the line, two frigates and smaller vessels for the conquest of Minorca in the Balearic Islands. After that, the Leviathan was one of the English warships in the Battle of Trafalgar. In the battle formation, it was in the northern line the fourth ship of the East. In the battle, the Leviathan lost 4 seamen, another 22 were wounded. After the end of the Napoleonic wars, the Leviathan in 1816 converted into a prison ship. 1848, the ship was finally sold and then demolished.
