HMS Sikh (F82)

The HMS Sikh ( F82 ) was a Tribal - class destroyer of the Royal Navy. It was named after the Indian ethnic group of the Sikh.

After launching on December 17, 1937 at the Alexander Stephen and Sons Shipyard in Glasgow the ship on 12 October 1938, put into service.

In May 1941, the Sikh was involved in the pursuit of the German battleship Bismarck ( see also: Company Rheinübung ). The night before the sinking she had fired a salvo of four torpedoes without success.

The ship then moved as part of Force H in the Mediterranean. On 13 December 1941, the destroyer sunk along with HMS Legion, HMS Maori and Mr.. Ms. Issac Sweers, the Italian light cruisers Alberico di Barbiano and Alberto di Giussano.

On 4 August 1942, the Sikh sunk along with HMS Zulu, HMS Croome and HMS Trescott the German submarine U 372 in front of Haifa.

On September 14, 1942 finally revealed HMS Sikh and HMS Zulu a commando operation against Tobruk. Here, the Sikh of used as a coastal battery German 88mm anti-aircraft guns was heavily damaged. The ship was taken by the HMS Zulu in drag, but could not be kept afloat and ultimately sank, with 115 of the crew were killed. The Zulu suffered the same fate the next day by air raids.
