HMS Temeraire

Four ships of the Royal Navy were named HMS Temeraire:

  • The first Temeraire was a French ship of the line with 74 guns; it was in 1759 by the British after the Battle of Lagos ( 1759) adopted on 19 August 1759 to 1784 sold again. It did not contribute the prefix HMS for His / Her Majesty Ship, which was not introduced until 1789.
  • The second Temeraire, a ship of the line with 98 guns, in 1798 laid the keel. At the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, she ran as a second ship behind the HMS Victory in the keel line. The ship was famous for his presentation on two paintings of William Turner, in particular, the last ride of the Téméraire ( original English Title The Fighting Téméraire tugged to her load Berth to be broken up) by 1838.   • A 42,500 -ton battleship of the Lion class should be built as the fifth Temeraire, the plans but were stopped in 1939 and no longer running.
